Kyokushin
Karate is a Japanese style of martial arts. Kyokushin roughly translates
to the way, or society of the ultimate truth and Karate translates to
empty hand. Kyokushin has long been considered to be one of the most
effective forms of Martial Arts in the world. This is due to the fact
that there is a strong enphesis on proper technique.
Masitatsu Oyama developed this Karate system to be a fighting art.
He felt at the time that the Karate schools were teaching a much too
soft version of Karate. A famous Quote of Mas oyama’s was”
I don’t want Karate dancers, I want Karate fighters.”
In the early 50’s Don Buck became a student of Mas Oyama’s.
Then in 1957 he was promoted to the Masters rank of Shihan (4th degree
black belt). After Mas Oyama passed away. Hanshi Don Buck waited to
see what would happen with the IKO. Due to political unrest with in
the organization he decided to break away. This is when he started the
AKKO (The American Kyokushin Karate Organization).
The American Kyokushin Karate Organization was one of the first Kyokushin
organizations to embrace extensive cross training. Our schools train
in traditional Kyokushin, Judo, Jujitsu and Kung Fu. This freedom gives
us a solid grasp of standing, grappling and throwing self-defense skills,
as well as the health benefits of Karate and Kung Fu.
Kyokushin Karate
has some of the most effective Tecniques for blocking, puncheing and
kicking. The stance work is also an integral part of the training. Through
the process of practicing your kata (formal exercises) your balance
will improve and your core will become stronger. There is extensive
work on practical application and sparring techniques. This will give
you a strong foundation in stand up self defense skills.
Kyokushin is considered to be one of the most aggressive forms of Martial
Arts. One reason for this is that Kyokushins traditional full contact
sparring is done with out any pads on the hands or feet. Unfortunately
few people understand the amount of time an athlete will spend conditioning
their body for this type of sparring. In the AKKO we have several different
types of sparring. A student is never made to do full contact sparring.
The AKKO mission is to have the best mix of Martial Arts and to make
the teachers and students the best Martial Artists that they can be.
